Notice of 444 amendments in the bill… JPC meeting on Wakf today, clause by clause discussion

The JPC formed on the Wakf Amendment Bill is meeting today at 11 am. The bill will be discussed clause by clause in the meeting. There was a ruckus in the last meeting. 10 opposition MPs were suspended from the JPC membership for a day. Actually, the opposition and ruling party members have given notices for amendments regarding the Wakf Bill. The ruling party and opposition members have given notices for 444 amendments in the proposed bill.
All opposition members have unanimously demanded that there is no need for separate Waqf for Aghakhani, Shia and others. Opposition members are unanimous in opposing the proposed structure of Waqf Board in the bill. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has specifically mentioned that the members should be followers of Islam and there should be at least 3-5 women in it.
- Owaisi gave notice for 43 amendments in the bill
- BJP members have given notice of 16 amendments, out of which Dilip Saikia and Medha Kulkarni have given notice of 3 amendments each.

NDA allies can give suggestions on the bill
NDA allies had also given notices for amendments in the bill but withdrew the notices before the final list was prepared. However, the allies of the NDA alliance can give some suggestions on this bill. Technically it is not necessary that their suggestions be on record. These suggestions can be given on the bill by NDA allies.
- In case of disputed property, where both parties are claiming rights in the matter, the property should be transferred to the government through a trust
- If the proceedings of any Waqf property are used for international activities, such properties should be confiscated immediately.
- Non-Muslims should be appointed to the Waqf Board for management activities.
There was uproar at the last meeting of the JPC
There was a ruckus in the last meeting of the JPC formed on the Waqf Amendment Bill. In view of the ruckus, even the marshals had to be called. 10 opposition MPs including Asaduddin Owaisi and Kalyan Banerjee were suspended from JPC membership for a day. The proposal to suspend the MPs of opposition parties was brought by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey. Asaduddin Owaisi, Imran Masood, Kalyan Banerjee, Arvind Sawant, Nasir Hussain, A Raja, Mohibullah Nadvi, MM Abdullah, Nadeemul Haque, Mohammad Javed were suspended.
The committee may present its report in the budget session
It is believed that the committee may submit its 500-page report in the upcoming budget session. This committee on Waqf has held 34 meetings in Delhi and visited several states, where more than 24 stakeholders were called. Out of the 21 Lok Sabha and 10 Rajya Sabha members of the committee, 13 are from opposition parties. There are nine members in the lower house and four in the upper house.
