National Updates: Gurmeet Ram Rahim Acquitted!

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Acquitted: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim has got relief from the High Court in a 22-year-old murder case. The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday acquitted Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in the murder case of his former manager Ranjit Singh. Ram Rahim is currently lodged in Rohtak's Sunaria jail and is serving a 20-year jail sentence for raping two of his disciples.

In 2021, the special CBI court had pronounced the sentence

Dera chief's lawyer Jitendra Khurana said that the High Court has acquitted his client in the Ranjit Singh murder case. Let us tell you that in the year 2021, a special court of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sentenced Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and four others to life imprisonment in the Ranjit Singh murder case.

Ranjit Singh was murdered on 10 July 2002

Former Dera manager Ranjit Singh was shot dead in Kurukshetra, Haryana on July 10, 2002. He was killed for his suspected involvement in circulating an anonymous letter that detailed how Ram Rahim was sexually exploiting women at the Dera headquarters. After being sentenced by the CBI court in Panchkula, Ram Rahim had appealed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Ram Rahim was acquitted in 1 case, but still has 2 criminal cases against him

Ram Rahim may have got relief in the murder case of former manager Ranjit Singh and the High Court acquitted him. But, there are still two criminal cases against him. The first case is of sexual exploitation of two nuns, in which he was sentenced to 10 years each in 2017. The second case is of journalist Ramchandra Chhatravati's murder, in which he was sentenced to life imprisonment in January 2019.
