Meta apologizes for Mark Zuckerberg's comment about '2024 elections'

Zuckerberg said during a podcast called 'The Joe Rogan Experience' that after COVID-19, there was a period of turmoil all over the world and after that most of the incumbent governments lost the elections. This includes India, where the government lost the 2024 elections.

Meta has apologized to the Indian government over its owner Mark Zuckerberg's remarks regarding the 2024 general elections. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently claimed on Joe Rogan's podcast that elections were held in many countries after COVID-19 and governments of many countries including India fell. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg had said that after COVID-19, there have been changes of power in almost all the countries of the world including India, which shows the lack of trust of the people towards the governments.

Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had expressed displeasure over Mark Zuckerberg's statement. At the same time, Shivanand Thukral, Vice President (Public Policy) of Meta India has apologized for this statement of Mark Zuckerberg. Shivanand Thukral said, "Dear Honorable Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, Mark's observation that many incumbent parties were not re-elected in the 2024 elections is true for many countries, but not for India. We apologize for this inadvertent mistake. India remains an incredibly important country for Meta and we look forward to being at the center of its innovative future.

Ashwini Vaishnav wrote in a post on the social media platform X, "As the world's largest democracy, India held the 2024 elections in which more than 64 crore voters participated. The people of India once again expressed their trust in the NDA under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi."

'Disappointing to be given wrong information'

He said, "Zuckerberg claims that most of the current governments, including India, lost the 2024 elections after Covid, which is factually incorrect." Ashwini Vaishnav also mentioned many major achievements under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ashwini Vaishnav wrote on X, "Free food grains to 80 crore people, 2.2 billion free vaccines and India helped countries around the world during Covid. India is the fastest growing economy. Prime Minister Modi's victory for the third time is a proof of good governance and public trust. It is very disappointing that Mark Zuckerberg gave wrong information. He should maintain credibility."
