Mayawati became the president for the sixth time, but will she be able to save BSP?
Mayawati has been re-elected as the President of BSP. This decision was taken by the National Executive of BSP in Lucknow. Earlier, there was a discussion that she might retire from politics. Like BSP founder Kanshi Ram, she might hand over the reins of the party to her nephew Akash Anand. It was Kanshi Ram who made Mayawati the President for the first time in the year 2003. Kanshi Ram had declared her as his successor in the year 2001. After being elected President for the sixth time, all discussions of retirement have come to an end.
Akash Anand will remain Mayawati's political successor as before. He is also the party's national coordinator. Mayawati's younger brother Akash Anand is the national vice-president of BSP. There was a time when Mayawati had decided not to make any member of her family her successor, but now three members of the same family are in the top three positions in the party.
There are three types of posters outside the BSP office in Lucknow. The posters have photos of only three BSP leaders. Party president Mayawati, her brother Anand Kumar and Anand's son Akash Anand. BSP officials from across the country met today. In this meeting, Mayawati had a long discussion on the elections to be held in five states. In Haryana, the party has formed an alliance with the Indian National Lok Dal. Mayawati is preparing to contest the elections alone in the remaining states.
Mayawati is in action only after the Supreme Court's decision on SC and ST reservation. She wanted the NDA government to bring a bill against this bill in the Parliament. But this could not happen. After this, she appealed for a Bharat Bandh against this decision. BSP workers took to the streets. BSP wants to regain its lost strength on the pretext of the reservation issue. The central government has opposed the creamy layer. But the central government's stand on reservation within quota is not clear yet.
This time two new slogans were raised in the BSP meeting. In honour of the Constitution, Mayawati is in the field. The second slogan was In honour of reservation, Mayawati is in the field. These two slogans were not raised earlier. Mayawati is preparing to unite the SC community people across the country on the issue of creating a separate category within the quota of reservation for Dalits. In this matter, she considers Congress, Samajwadi Party and BJP equally guilty.
The 30-year-old BSP is currently going through a crisis. The party did not even open its account in the Lok Sabha elections. Mayawati has been the Chief Minister of UP four times. But in the same UP, BSP has only one MLA. Mayawati said that due to poor performance in the Lok Sabha, the political strength of the BSP has decreased. The party cannot put pressure on the governments in the interest of Dalits.
Today, Mayawati is facing a mountain of challenges. Her own Dalit vote bank has started disintegrating. A large part of it has shifted to NDA and All India Alliance. In this Lok Sabha election, the party's vote share has come down to 9 percent. In the last Lok Sabha election, the party had got 22 percent votes.
All the big leaders who were with Mayawati have now gone to other parties. Only former MP Satish Chandra Mishra is left. Chandrashekhar is slowly becoming a challenge for him. Both Mayawati and Chandrashekhar belong to the Jatav community. In such a situation, the biggest challenge before Mayawati, who has been elected president for the sixth time, will be to keep the BSP alive.
