This time the world's biggest religious festival Maha Kumbh is being organized in the Sangam city of Prayagraj. In search of the Amrit that fell from Kumbh millions of years ago, a procession of devotees is being drawn to the banks of Ganga-Yamuna and invisible Saraswati. On the day of Makar Sankranti i.e. Tuesday, 3.5 crore devotees took a holy dip. This figure is really surprising. Because out of 234 countries in the world, only 45 have a population of more than 3.4 crore.

That is, a crowd greater than the population of 189 countries has reached Sangam city for Shadi Snan. This shows the true faith of people towards God. On the day of Makar Sankranti, as soon as the devotees took a dip in Ganga, the drops of Triveni Sangam started overflowing as if Amrit had overflowed from Kumbh. On Tuesday, sadhus from various Akharas took the first 'Amrit Snan' in Maha Kumbh. On this occasion, a huge crowd of people had gathered at Triveni Sangam.

Most of the akhadas at the Maha Kumbh were led by ash-coated Naga sadhus who mesmerised the audience with their discipline and mastery of traditional weapons. From skillfully wielding spears and swords to passionately playing the 'damaaru', their performances were a live celebration of age-old traditions, an official statement said.

Apart from male Naga sadhus, female Naga ascetics were also present in large numbers in the Maha Kumbh. The first big bath of the Maha Kumbh took place on Monday on the occasion of 'Paush Purnima', while members of akhadas or Hindu monasteries took their first bath on Makar Sankranti.

13 arenas are participating

Shri Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani and Shri Shambhu Panchayati Atal Akhara were the first to take 'Amrit Snan'. Thirteen Akharas are participating in the Maha Kumbh. During the Amrit Snan, rose petals were showered on the devotees from a helicopter. Mahamandaleshwar Chetangiri Maharaj of Mahanirvani Akhara said that Purna Kumbh is organized in Prayagraj every 12 years, but after 12 Purna Kumbhs, Maha Kumbh is held once in 144 years. Participating in this holy event is a rare blessing for the devotees. 68 Mahamandaleshwars of Mahanirvani Akhara and thousands of sadhus participated in the Amrit Snan.

The Kinnar Akhara also took a dip

35 Mahamandaleshwars of Niranjani Akhara and thousands of Naga sadhus participated in the Amrit Snan. Apart from this, thousands of saints from Juna Akhara, Awahan Akhara and Panchagni Akhara also took Amrit Snan. Members of Kinnar Akhara also took the holy dip along with Juna Akhara, led by Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Avdheshanand Giri, who arrived at the ghat in a grand chariot, followed by a group of Naga sadhus.

Naga sadhus carrying spears and tridents, with ashes smeared on their bodies, some riding horses, proceeded for the royal bath in a procession. With flowers in matted hair, garlands around their necks and tridents in their hands, they added to the spiritual grandeur of the Maha Kumbh.
