The encounter between the police and the criminal Zahid took place on the Zamania-Dildarnagar road in the Dildarnagar police station area of ​​the district. Zahid alias Sonu was a resident of Phulwarisharif, Patna, Bihar. He was a vicious criminal and several cases related to kidnapping, assault, and liquor smuggling were registered against him. Several cases were also registered against him in Patna, Phulwarisharif, Gahmar, and Danapur police stations of Bihar. He was also the main mastermind of the murder of two RPF jawans while smuggling liquor in a train on the night of August 20.

On the night of 20th August, two RPF jawans were thrown out of the Barmer Express passing through Ghazipur and killed. The two deceased RPF jawans Javed and Pramod were going to Patna for training. Meanwhile, some miscreants tried to smuggle liquor by chain pulling in the train near Kuchman railway station. When RPF jawans Javed and Pramod opposed this, the liquor smugglers beat them up and threw them out of the moving train, due to which both the constables died. After the incident, a case of murder of both the constables was registered at Gahmar police station. Among them, RPF jawan Javed was a resident of Devta village of Dildarnagar area of ​​Ghazipur, while Pramod was a resident of the Ara district of Bihar.

The police started an investigation in which a gang of liquor smugglers came to light. STF, RPF, GRP, and Ghazipur police got together to uncover the incident and arrest the killers. The joint police team arrested five people involved in the crime. During interrogation, it was found that Zahid alias Sonu was the mastermind of this incident. He was absconding from the police. A reward of one lakh rupees was announced on the miscreant Zahid for his arrest. The police team started searching for Zahid.

On Monday, the police team received information that the miscreant Zahid was standing near the Dildarnagar Gahmar railway line to smuggle liquor. The police surrounded him. Miscreant Zahid opened fire on the police, in which two constables were injured. The police team retaliated and fired at Zahid, due to which he was seriously injured. He was brought to the district hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead. When the police searched Zahid, a pistol was recovered from him.
