'It was not a conspiracy sir, we were just scared...', Sunny-Tinku who placed an iron pillar on the railway track in Rampur told the story.
On September 18, some miscreants had placed an iron pillar on the railway track in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh. Just then a train started passing from there. But the accident was averted due to the presence of mind of the loco pilot. The police have been investigating this case since then. Now the police have arrested two accused, who had placed the pillar on the railway track. Both said that it was not a conspiracy. Rather, they were stealing the iron pillar and taking it away. Just then the sound of a train came from there. They got scared and ran away leaving the pillar on the track.
Police said that two youths Sunny alias Sandeep Chauhan and Bijendra alias Tinku, residents of Bilaspur police station area, have been arrested. Both are drug addicts and in an intoxicated state, they tried to steal an electric pole. But when they were crossing the track with the pole, a train came from the front. In such a situation, they left the pole on the track and ran away.
The police have rejected the angle of conspiracy to overturn the train. They also said that they have no connection with any organization. However, a dozen cases are registered against Sunny in Bilaspur police station, while one case is registered against Bijendra. At present, accused Sunny and Tinku have been sent to jail.
A major accident was averted.
On the night of 18 September, a 6-meter-long iron pole was found lying on the railway track between Bilaspur and Rudrapur City railway stations. The driver stopped the train by applying emergency brakes, thus averting a major accident.
According to the officer, during interrogation, it was found that Sunny and Tinku often went there to drink alcohol. On the day of the incident, they drank alcohol near the railway track stole an iron pole lying nearby, and took it away. The ground was uneven and Sunny-Tinku was quite drunk. While they were taking the pole, they heard the train horn, after which they left the pole there and ran away. They did not intend to overturn the train. But their act could have led to a bigger disaster.
