Taking a big action, the Indian government has issued an order to block 119 foreign apps from Google Play Store. Most of these are Hong Kong and Chinese apps.

The Indian government has ordered Google Play Store to block 119 foreign apps. Most of these are video and voice chat apps and are linked to China and Hong Kong. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued orders in this regard under Section 69A of the IT Act. This section gives the government the right to block such content or platforms that may pose a threat to national security or public order.

All apps that will be blocked are foreign

Some of the apps that the government has ordered Google Play Store to block are also linked to Singapore, America, United Kingdom and Australia etc. According to Moneycontrol, despite the order, only 15 out of 119 apps have been removed so far and the rest are still available for download. The developers of some of these apps have said that they have been informed about this by Google and they are ready to work with the Indian government to resolve the issue. The apps to be blocked include apps like ChangApp, HoneyCam and ChillChat.

Many developers are hoping for clarification

According to the report, many developers have said that they have received information about this from Google, but they are expecting more clarification about this. They say that this order will have a big impact on their business as well as users. Some of them have said that they are ready to work with the Indian government.

Indian government has blocked apps earlier also

After the tension with China increased in 2020, the Indian government took strict action against Chinese apps. The government had issued orders on different occasions and blocked more than 100 Chinese apps. These included apps like TikTok, UC Browser and PUBG. However, some of these have now returned.
