Mathematics in wet soil
The situation is currently tense at the Petrapole border in North 24-Parganas, West Bengal. There is a stir and people have gathered on both sides of the border since the political crisis in Bangladesh. A few days ago, local people saw a person solving math with a stick in the wet soil under a tree near Petrapole market.
The man's clothes were dirty and he looked to be 35-40 years old. People informed the police about him. On investigation, it was found that the man's mental condition was not good. He was a math teacher from Gorakhpur, UP. His name was Amit Kumar Prasad, who has been missing for many years.

With the help of Ham Radio people, the local police reunited Prasad with his family. His father Gama Prasad had come to Petrapole police station with his relatives from Gorakhpur. He started crying as soon as he saw them.
Family members said that before going missing, Prasad taught mathematics at a school in his hometown for several years. Gama Prasad said, 'Apart from teaching students in school, my son taught mathematics to more than 250 children from poor families in at least five neighbouring villages for free. His love for mathematics started from childhood and he started teaching early. Later, he suffered from a mental illness and went missing. We searched for him for a long time but to no avail.'
The father said that we never expected that he would live for so many years.

Radio's Parimal Roy told the media, 'Local people saw him (teacher) writing math formulas on wet soil and solving equations. They asked for his identity but did not get any answer. When asked further, he said in Hindi, leave me alone, I have to solve math.' After this, the police was informed. There is a festive atmosphere at the house of this math teacher.
