Delhi NCR Weather Update 29 May:  The Sun God is spewing fire in half of India. There is chaos in North India due to severe heat. The list of the hottest cities in the country is changing rapidly. Every day the mercury is unexpectedly crossing 50 degrees Celsius in new cities. On Tuesday, Churu in Rajasthan (Rajasthan weather update) was the hottest city in the country. The mercury i.e. maximum temperature there was recorded at 50.5 degrees Celsius. On the other hand, Sirsa city of Haryana (Haryana weather update) was in second place. The mercury there was recorded at 50.3 degrees Celsius. 

Red alert for extreme heat

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for severe heat conditions for Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Western Uttar Pradesh, and Western Madhya Pradesh for May 30.

The scorching heat in Delhi continued on Tuesday and the mercury reached close to 50 degrees Celsius in some areas of Delhi. Due to hot winds coming from Rajasthan and scorching sunshine, the temperature increased especially in the outskirts of Delhi. According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), severe heat conditions will continue in Delhi for the next few days.

The maximum temperature recorded at Safdarjung, the city's standard observatory, was 45.8 degrees Celsius, five degrees above normal.

However, in the outskirts of the city, Mungeshpur (mungeshpur temperature today) and Narela, the mercury was recorded at 49.9 degrees Celsius, which is nine degrees Celsius above normal. At the same time, the temperature was 49.8 degrees in Najafgarh while it was 48.5 degrees Celsius in Pitampura and Pusa.

Why are cities getting exceptionally hot?

At the same time, according to the report of 'Skymet Weather', 'In open areas with empty land, the radiation is high. Direct sunlight and lack of shade make these areas exceptionally hot.'

Palawat said that the wind direction also plays an important role. He said, that when the wind blows from the west, it affects these areas first. Since these are the outskirts, the temperature here rises rapidly.

Meanwhile, IMD regional head Kuldeep Srivastava said that places like Najafgarh are witnessing a sharp rise in temperature due to several reasons. He highlighted that the outskirts are the first areas to be hit by hot winds blowing from Rajasthan.

2-day heat alert

He said, 'Some parts of Delhi are particularly vulnerable to the early arrival of these hot winds, which is worsening the already severe situation. Areas like Mungeshpur, Narela, and Najafgarh are the first to face the hot winds.'

Another meteorologist Charan Singh said that open areas and barren land are contributing to high temperatures due to increased radiation. Delhi has witnessed a sharp rise in temperature in the last days of May.

Tuesday's maximum temperature was slightly higher than Sunday when the national capital recorded 45.4 degrees Celsius.

The IMD said that on Tuesday, Delhi Ridge recorded a temperature of 47.5 degrees Celsius and Aya Nagar recorded a temperature of 47.6 degrees Celsius. It said that this was the highest temperature recorded at both these stations.

Due to severe heat, a 'red alert' has been issued in the city for the next two days.

IMD has said in its forecast for Wednesday that many parts of Delhi may experience intense heat and strong winds tomorrow. However, the sky will remain mostly clear.

According to Atul Kumar Singh, scientist of the Regional Meteorological Center, Lucknow, there has never been so much heat in UP in May.
