Heavy Rain and Fog Increase Cold in Delhi, IMD Issues Storm and Fog Alert

New Delhi: Heavy rain early on Friday morning has further increased the chill in the national capital. Now, Delhi residents are facing a triple threat of rain, fog, and cold weather. The heavy rainfall on Friday morning has intensified the cold wave. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold wave and fog alert for the coming days.

People Struggling with Intense Cold

The weather department has predicted the possibility of thunderstorms with rain on Friday and Saturday. Additionally, a 'Yellow Alert' has been issued for Sunday, predicting dense fog. Rains have been sporadic throughout Delhi and NCR since morning. IMD has issued Yellow and Orange alerts for Delhi and surrounding areas, indicating that residents are likely to face dense fog and extreme cold in the coming days.

No Relief from Pollution

Despite the weather changes, there has been no significant relief from pollution. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality was recorded in the "very poor" category on Thursday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 340 by 9 AM. CPCB data revealed that 32 out of 38 monitoring stations in Delhi recorded "very poor" air quality. On Friday morning, AQI in most parts of Delhi was recorded in the "very poor" category.

  • 0-50: "Good"
  • 51-100: "Fair"
  • 101-200: "Moderate"
  • 201-300: "Poor"
  • 301-400: "Very Poor"
  • 401-500: "Severe"

IMD reported that the minimum temperature on Thursday was recorded at 8.2°C, which is one degree above normal, while the maximum temperature was 24.1°C, three degrees above normal. On Friday, the maximum temperature is expected to be 20°C and the minimum temperature 12°C.
