Somnath Parida joined the Indian Army as a Second Lieutenant in 1970. After serving the country, he retired from the post of Lieutenant Colonel in 1992. He was serving as a doctor in the army. Somnath was counted among the best surgeons of the army. After retiring from the army, he also worked for the World Health Organization (WHO).

After working for WHO, Somnath also opened his own clinic. Then he started giving his services here. Somnath and Usha had two children. After becoming a doctor, the son settled in America. Whereas, their daughter settled in Dubai. Although both the children lived far away, they definitely talked to their mother on the phone. The children mostly talked to their mother. Because Somnath Parida was a person of a different temperament. He used to get angry very quickly. Due to this, he did not get along well with anyone. Even the children used to talk to him very rarely.

Somnath also kept himself isolated socially. In fact, Somnath's house was a very big villa. But only Somnath and his wife lived in such a big bungalow. Somnath did not have much conversation with his relatives. Therefore, relatives also came to his house very rarely. It means almost none. Some people even called Somnath's bungalow a haunted bungalow.

According to the routine, Somnath used to sleep at 6 pm. Then he used to wake up at 3 am. Time kept passing. Then came the year 2013. Both the children of Somnath Parida used to call their mother two or three times a week. As usual, one day in June 2013, when Somnath's son called his mother Usha, the mobile was switched off. He thought that maybe his mother must be busy somewhere. He called again after some time. This time again Usha's phone was switched off. The next day the son called his mother once again. But the mobile was switched off. The son got worried and called his father Somnath. He asked about his mother. Somnath said- Your mother has gone to Dubai to meet her daughter a few days ago. That is why her phone is switched off.

On hearing this, Somnath's son called his sister. The sister told him that his mother did not come to him. The sister said that she herself did not talk to her mother. The son then called his father again. So Somnath scolded him and disconnected the call. The son kept calling his father again and again. But Somnath did not pick up his call. Tired of this, he called his uncle Ranjan Samal and told him the whole thing. Then he said that uncle, please go and see our house once. Mother's phone is also switched off. I am feeling very nervous. Uncle Ranjan reached Somnath's house with one of his sisters without any delay.

Somnath did not open the door

They knocked on the door of Somnath's house for a long time. But no one opened the door. Ranjan and his sister stood there waiting for someone to come here. Then a small window of the house opened. Somnath was at home. He asked Ranjan - why have you come here. Ranjan asked about Usha. Then Somnath said - she has gone to Dubai to meet her daughter. Ranjan said - you are lying. Didi is not in Dubai. You open the door, we want to talk. But Somnath got angry. He started shouting at both of them and after a while closed the window too.

22 Tiffin Reveals the Secret

Ranjan tried to peep inside from the other windows of the house. Then he smelled a foul smell. He felt that something was wrong here. He immediately reached Nayapalli police station and told the police the whole story. After listening to the whole story, the police also reached Somnath's house. But even on the request of the police, Somnath did not open the door. Due to this, the police broke the door and entered the house. There they saw - Somnath was sitting comfortably in the house. But the foul smell was still coming continuously. The policemen then started searching the house. While searching, they reached a closed room. The foul smell was coming from here. The policemen saw two boxes kept there. They were army boxes. The police took out both the boxes. As soon as they opened one box, there were many tiffins kept in it. The second box was also full of tiffins.

There were a total of 22 tiffins in both the boxes. The police asked about the tiffin cake. Somnath could not give any precise answer. Then the police opened one of the tiffins. Everyone present there was shocked to see it. There were small pieces of human flesh in the tiffin. All the tiffins were opened one by one. All of them had pieces of human flesh.

All the pieces were cut very neatly. When the police asked for an answer, Somnath said- These pieces are of Usha. My wife was a Sai devotee. Suddenly one day she started banging her head. This led to her death. Before dying, she had told me to cremate her in Shirdi itself. It was not possible to take her to Shirdi like this. So I cut her body into pieces. And put them in tiffin. I thought that I would take each tiffin to Shirdi and then cremate her there.

This claim was very strange and shocking how can someone die by banging his head? The police immediately arrested Somnath and started questioning him. The pieces were sent for investigation. It was found that the head part was missing. The police started searching for the head. Then their eyes fell on the table in the hall. There Usha's head was kept decorated in the middle of the table, covered with a cloth. The head had decayed to a great extent. When the police asked the reason for this, Somnath gave such an answer that even they were shocked. Somnath said- I talk to Usha here for hours every day.

The police then started questioning Somnath strictly because they were not believing Somnath's theory. According to the truth that the police later found out, Usha had not committed suicide. Somnath and Usha fought on 3 June 2013. During this fight, Somnath attacked Usha with a steel torch. This blow was so strong that Usha fell unconscious. Somnath's anger did not calm down even here. Somnath attacked the unconscious Usha and killed her.

Later, Somnath got worried about where to dispose of the body. The next day when the maid came, Somnath fired her from the job and said- don't come to work now. After this, he bought three tiffins from a nearby shop. On the first day, he cut some pieces of the body. In this way, he would buy tiffins from the shop every day cut the body into pieces, and put them in the tiffins. After filling 22 tiffins with the pieces of the body, he put them in two boxes and kept them in a room. He also used a chemical to prevent the smell from spreading.

The court sentenced him to life imprisonment.

The shocking thing was that the body was cut into pieces using the instruments used in surgery. Then the head was placed on the table and decorated. It was covered with a cloth so that no one could see it. The body was cut into 300 pieces. The length of each piece was 6 inches. The police had found out who had committed the murder. But the motive behind it was yet to be found out. Investigation revealed that Usha suspected that Somnath was having an affair with a girl working in his clinic. The couple often fought over this issue.

On 3 June 2013, both of them fought over the same issue. After this revelation, Somnath was sent to jail on 22 June 2013. Several sections including murder were imposed on Somnath. Then the hearing of this case started in the court of Khurda district. During the hearing, Somnath's son and daughter also testified against their father. After this, the court declared Somnath guilty. He was sentenced to life imprisonment on 25 February 2020. Along with this, a fine of 50 thousand was also imposed. Now Somnath is 81 years old. He is serving the punishment for his insanity in Jharpada jail.
