Ghaziabad. GRP police in Ghaziabad, UP has arrested a youth who used to drug fellow passengers on trains and steal their mobile phones, ATM cards, and cash for the last two years. The accused has been identified as Sagir, a resident of Darbhanga in Bihar and was currently living in Ankur Vihar Lohani in Ghaziabad.
Used to play ludo by making friends
According to the police, Sagir used to befriend passengers while traveling on the train and get their passwords on the pretext of playing Ludo on their phones. He would then make the passengers unconscious by giving them intoxicants and then steal their mobile phones, ATM cards, and other valuables including cash. Using the phones stolen by him, he would withdraw money from the victims' accounts.
Trains like Vaishali and Sampoorna Kranti Express were targeted
Sagir mainly targeted trains like the Vaishali Express and Sampoorna Kranti Express, especially those traveling in sleepers and general coaches. He would often board trains bound for Bihar and approach passengers whom he would target to rob. Police said 8 mobile phones, 2 Aadhaar cards, narcotic pills, a bag, and Rs 67,150 in cash were recovered from Sagir.
More than 20 incidents admitted
Sagir admitted during police interrogation that he had committed more than 20 crimes in the last two years and all the crimes were committed in trains going to Bihar. His strategy was that he would book tickets in those trains and then flee to a safe place after robbing.
