Government takes strict action against apps showing pornographic content, bans 18 OTT apps, see full list

The government has taken strict action against apps serving pornographic content. Last month, the government said that 18 OTT apps showing such content have been blocked.

The government has taken strict action against OTT platforms serving pornographic content. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting banned many such apps a few days ago. These platforms were showing pornographic content by violating Indian laws. Under this action, action was taken against 19 websites, 10 mobile apps and 57 social media accounts related to them, after which these websites and apps cannot be accessed in India.

The government gave information during the winter session 

Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan had said in the winter session of Parliament that ended last month that the government has decided to block 18 OTT platforms under the IT Act 2021. Obscene and pornographic content was being served through all these apps.

These 18 OTT apps were banned

• Tri Flicks
• X Prime
• VIP
• besharams
• Hunters
• Rabbit
• Xtramood
• Nueflix
• MoodX
• Mojflix
• VIP Hot Shots
• Fugi
• Chikooflix
• PrimePlay

The ministry found that the content shown on these platforms was extremely obscene, insulting to the dignity of women and inappropriate. Many relationships were depicted inappropriately in it. Such content is considered illegal under the Indian law. A case was also filed against the owners of these apps on the charge of serving obscene content by the government. 

These apps have 32 lakh followers on social media

Many of these banned apps were extremely popular. One of them was downloaded more than 1 crore times and 2 were downloaded more than 50 lakh times. They used to share trailers and links of their content on social media platforms. These apps had more than 32 lakh followers on social media.
