Summary

Due to Google Maps, two French tourists got stuck in Bareilly's Churaili Dam instead of going to Nepal. The villagers helped them in the darkness of the night and the police showed them the right way.

Google Map again ditched : Once again two tourists have been cheated while travelling on the basis of Google Maps. Two tourists who were going to Nepal by bicycle with the help of Google Maps did not reach Nepal but got stuck in Bareilly, UP. It was a good coincidence that the villagers came forward to help the tourists stranded in Bareilly's Churaili Dam in the dark of the night and gave them shelter. The incident happened on Thursday night.

What is the whole matter?

Relying on Google Maps, two French tourists were going to Kathmandu in Nepal by bicycle. On Thursday, both the French tourists lost their way near Churaili Dam in Bareilly. When the villagers saw the two foreigners wandering on the road in the dark, they became alert. Knowing them to be suspicious, people called the Churaili police station.

Brian Jacques Gilbert and Sebastian Francois Gabriel from France told the police that they had come to Delhi on January 7. Their aim was to reach Nepal from Delhi by bicycle. They had to go via Pilibhit via Tanakpur, but Google Maps showed them a shortcut and diverted them towards Churaili Dam in Baheri. After getting lost in the dark and deserted road, both of them reached there.

Vigilance of the villagers and help of the police

On Thursday night around 11 o'clock the villagers saw the two foreigners on the road. Despite not understanding their language, the villagers took them to Churaili police station to avoid any untoward incident. The police acted promptly and arranged for them to stay at the village head's house.

On receiving information about the matter, Bareilly's Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya talked to both the tourists and instructed the police to give them proper guidance. On Friday morning, both the tourists were given directions to go to Kathmandu and their journey was resumed.

Question on google maps

This is not the first time people have faced problems relying on Google Maps. This incident has once again drawn attention to the limitations of digital navigation and the need for real guidance.
