Friendship that started on the boat turned into love, grew a beard, and even changed religion, then got a 'betrayal'... Story of double murder in Banda
A double murder incident in the Banda district of Uttar Pradesh shook the entire area. When the marriage did not happen even after three years of a love affair, an angry lover killed his girlfriend. After this, the angry family members beat the lover to death. This story is of two villages, Mahavra and Sabada, of the Palani police station area of Banda district.
Rahul Valmiki alias Murshid (27) and Zakarin (23) first met three years ago in August 2022 during a boat trip on the Yamuna river. Rahul was going to Lucknow to take the railway exam, and Zakarin was returning to her village. Love blossomed between the two during this journey. Gradually, the two came closer to each other. Zakarin and her mother Hajra started inviting Rahul home and feeding him. The news of their love spread throughout the village.
Change of religion for marriage and new name Murshid
When Rahul expressed his desire to marry Zakirin, his mother and sister put a condition that he should first accept Islam, then marriage would take place. In the passion of love, Rahul accepted Islam by reciting Kalma and became a Murshid. He got circumcised, grew a beard, and started wearing a Muslim cap. Rahul also started offering Namaaz in the village mosque. When his father Gaya Prasad Valmiki came to know about this, he protested, but Rahul did not agree.
False hope of marriage and a big deception
Rahul was constantly lured into marriage. But when the relatives in the village opposed this marriage, the family arranged Zakarin's marriage somewhere else. On 5 December 2024, Zakarin was married to a young man from Parshuram Talab, Banda. When Rahul went to Goa to meet his sister after 6 months, he did not even get a hint of this. But when he returned to his village four days ago, he came to know that the girl for whom he changed his religion was married to someone else, which made him furious.
Angry Rahul attacks and then kills her
According to the information, around 1:30 am on Sunday night, a furious Rahul entered Zakarin's house through the roof. When he asked Zakarin for an answer for this betrayal, a fight broke out between the two. In anger, Rahul took out a knife and stabbed Zakarin on her chest and hand. Hearing the screams, Zakarin's mother and other family members woke up. When they saw that their daughter was covered in blood, they attacked Rahul in anger. They beat him with sticks and rods and left him half dead.
Both died in the hospital
The village head informed the police. At around 3 am, the police took both of them to the hospital. But Zakreen died on the way. Rahul was admitted to the district hospital, where he also died about half an hour later.
Police investigation and allegation of honour killing
As soon as the news of the incident was received, DIG Ajay Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police Ankur Agarwal and other officers reached the spot. Police force was deployed in Mahawara and Sabada villages to prevent any further violence. Rahul's father Gaya Prasad Valmiki filed a murder report against Zakirin's mother, sister and uncle. He said that Zakirin's family killed their daughter and my son as part of a conspiracy.

Rahul was from a poor family. His mother had passed away 10 years ago. His father used to run the household by doing farm labour. Rahul used to work in Kolkata and Mumbai. On the other hand, Zakirin's family was financially well off. Her father used to work in a sweets shop in Mumbai. Despite converting her religion by promising Nikaah for three years, Rahul did not find a bride.
He was so angry at his marriage dreams being shattered that he killed his girlfriend. In return, the family beat him to death. This incident has created a sensation in the entire area. The police are questioning both the families and further investigation is underway.
