In fact, the government will take 42.5 percent of his prize money as tax. 

D Gukesh received $13 lakh (i.e. about Rs 11.03 crore) for winning the World Chess Championship. Now, about Rs 5 crore will be deducted from this amount. According to the report, about Rs 4.67 crore will be deducted from Gukesh's prize money as tax. He will have to give this amount to the government. 

Let us tell you that when a player gets any money from the government or that sports association, he does not have to pay tax on it, but the government levies tax on the prize money that a player gets on winning a tournament. Therefore, Gukesh will have to pay tax on the prize money he gets on winning the championship.

D Gukesh won his first championship at the age of just 9. He won the Under-9 Asian School Chess Championship at the age of just 9. Three years later, he won the World Youth Chess Championship at the Under-12 level. At the age of 12, he won not one, not two, but 5 gold medals in the 2018 Asian Youth Chess Championship. In March 2017, he became the third youngest chess grandmaster in history by winning the International Master Tournament.
