The health department has become alert after some cases of Chandipura virus have been reported in Gujarat and Rajasthan. So far, nine cases of this virus have been reported from four districts of Gujarat, out of which three cases are of people who have come from other states. However, Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel says that there is no need to panic, but vigilance is necessary.
The Health Minister said that Chandipura is not a new virus. Its first case was reported in Maharashtra in 1965 and some cases of this virus are reported every year in Gujarat. Chandipura virus causes symptoms like fever, brain fever (encephalitis), and body pain. This virus is a member of the Vesiculovirus family and spreads through the bite of an infected mosquito, tick, or sandfly.
Cause of spread of the disease and symptoms
According to Health Minister Rushikesh Patel, this disease spreads due to the bite of infected sandflies and mainly affects children between 9 months and 14 years of age. It is mostly seen in rural areas. Its main symptoms are fever, vomiting, diarrhea and headache. If these symptoms appear, then a doctor should be consulted immediately.
Till
now, 6 deaths have been reported due to the Chandipura virus in Gujarat but the health department has said that these deaths have not been confirmed as due to the Chandipura virus.
The health department is being vigilant.
The state health department is being very vigilant in this matter. So far, more than 400 houses have been inspected and more than 19,000 people have been screened. The health minister says that this disease is not contagious.
Caution is the only protection.
Although the Chandipura virus does not spread rapidly, complications like brain fever caused by it can be fatal. Therefore, it is important to consult a doctor without delay if symptoms like fever, vomiting, or severe headache appear.
