CDS Bipin Rawat Chopper Crash: The report of the Parliamentary Committee set up to investigate the death of the country's first CDS General Bipin Rawat has come out. In its report, the committee has cited human error as the reason behind the Mi-17 V5 helicopter crash on December 8, 2021. General Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat and several other armed forces personnel died when their military helicopter crashed near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu.
In its report tabled in Parliament on Tuesday, the Standing Committee on Defence shared the data on the number of accidents involving Indian Air Force aircraft during the 13th Defence Plan period. There were a total of 34 accidents, including nine IAF accidents in 2021-22 and 11 in 2018-19. The report has a column titled 'Causes' which cites 'human error' as the cause of the accident.
General Rawat's helicopter crashed on a hill near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu. Three years later, the report of the Standing Committee on Defence was tabled in the Lok Sabha. In this, the cause of the incident has been described as 'human error' i.e. human error.
