Attempt to defame Maha Kumbh, FIR against 7 people running social media accounts

Mahakumbh 2025: An old video shot in Nepal has been uploaded on a social media account. It was claimed that three members of a family died in a stampede on Mauni Amavasya during Mahakumbh. When it was investigated, it was found that this was an old video.
Prayagraj: The Mela police on Sunday evening lodged an FIR against seven social media account holders for spreading rumours and fake news to defame the Maha Kumbh. SSP (Kumbh Mela) Rajesh Dwivedi said the FIR has been lodged at the Mela Kotwali police station and action will be initiated accordingly. A joint team of cybercrime and Mela police has been assigned the task of investigating the matter and take action accordingly.
A social media account uploaded a fake video. This video was shot in Nepal long ago. It claimed that family members and others were carrying three bodies on their shoulders. This account alleged that three members of a family died in the Kumbh stampede and the family members had to carry the bodies from the postmortem house on their shoulders. They also uploaded a picture titled 'Mahakumbh of Death' and said that at least one ambulance should be provided to the family to send the bodies to their ancestral home. The SSP said that when the police investigated it, the reality came out that it was an old video filmed in Nepal.
