Meanwhile, 23 flights taking off and landing from Visakhapatnam Airport in Andhra Pradesh have been canceled on Tuesday due to bad weather. At the same time, Chennai Airport has also canceled 10 flights. These include flights to Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Jaipur, and Mumbai.

Meteorological Center Bhubaneswar said that cyclonic storm Asani moved in a west-northwest direction with a speed of 5 kmph during the last 6 hours. It is currently about 590 km south-west of Puri and about 510 km south-west of Gopalpur, Odisha.

Cyclone Asani will continue to move in the northwest direction till the night of May 10. Thereafter, it will turn northeastwards from the Odisha coast towards the northwest Bay of Bengal. It is likely to weaken in the next 24 hours.


The cyclone will not hit the coast but alerted all ports

The Asani cyclone, which lifted from the southeast Bay of Bengal, is said to reach the Odisha coast in the next 24 hours. According to the Meteorological Department, apart from Odisha, the effect of the cyclone will be visible in Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Bengal, Chhattisgarh, and other states. During this, there is a possibility of heavy rain in many areas. Odisha Special Relief Commissioner PK Jena said that Cyclone Asani is currently located in South East Andaman, and is moving in a northwest direction. It is expected to move in the same direction by May 10. Later, it will move exclusively parallel to Odisha. Will reach the south of Puri by 11th May evening.

Meteorological expert Umashankar Das has said that Cyclone Asani will reach the sea near North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha by Tuesday evening, although from here it will move in the northeast direction. The land will not collide with the part of Odisha. However, due to the effect of the cyclone, there will be heavy rain with a strong wind in coastal Odisha for two days, in such a situation all the ports have been alerted. Given the cyclone, instructions have been issued to the fishermen to return from the sea.

Government ready to deal with any situation

Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jena has said that May 11 is important for Odisha. The government is ready to deal with any kind of situation. 10 teams of ODRAF (Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force) and NDRF have been sent to the affected districts. This includes nine teams from ODRAF and one team from NDRF.

Light to heavy rain warnings in these states

According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain may occur in West Bengal, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, South Assam, Andaman, and the Nicobar Islands today. Light to moderate rain with isolated heavy rain is likely over Odisha and Andhra Pradesh coasts. Light to moderate rain may occur over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, South Karnataka, and Rayalaseema. Light rain is possible over Western Himalayas.
