Can corona cases increase again due to negligence during festivals?

The decrease in corona cases continues in the country. The total number of new cases in the last week is less than 40 thousand. The recovery rate is increasing and the infection rate is decreasing.

The World Health Organization has also said that the effect of the corona epidemic is already decreasing and in the coming times, the epidemic can only move towards ending. But strict steps have to be taken regarding this. Looking at the situation in India, the new cases are the lowest since February this year. But in the next few days, festivals are going to start in the country. There is also a big festival like Diwali, in which the movement of people from one state to another will increase significantly.

It is also common for people to gather together during festivals, but it can create a big problem. Experts have expressed apprehension that if COVID is not protected during festivals, then cases may increase in the coming days. Last year too, there was a jump in the cases of COVID after December. The main reason for this was the crowd in the markets and non-compliance with the rules of prevention from COVID. If the same thing happens this time too, then new cases of the virus may increase again.

Professor Dr. Sunila Garg, a member of the Lancet COVID-19 Commission of India Task Force, says that although the cases of corona have decreased, the mutation in the virus continues and the virus is present among us. Its effect may have reduced, but it is not that the cases of COVID can never increase or any new variants will not come. Many festivals are coming in the coming days. Due to this, the crowd will increase in the markets and public places. This will give the virus a chance to mutate faster. In such a situation, it is necessary that people take precautions during festivals. Avoid going to crowded areas and wear a mask.

Dr. Garg says that the administration of the people will also have to be strict in the prevention of COVID in the coming days. Because there is a possibility that if carelessness is taken during the festivals, then the cases of corona may increase again. There is also a possibility of the arrival of new variants. In such a situation, it is important that people do not understand that COVID is over forever, but keep protecting it. This is because even if a person is infected with COVID, if goes to the market or any crowded place, then he can infect many people and this can increase the cases of infection rapidly.

Epidemiologist Dr. Jugal Kishore says that the cases of COVID may increase after the festivals. It has been seen in the pattern of the corona epidemic that whenever the festival season comes in the country, then after some time the cases increase. One of the major reasons for this is the carelessness of the people.

Since now the cases of COVID are coming very less, it is understood that the corona is over, whereas it is not. Cases of this virus will keep on coming and small peaks can be seen in between. In such a situation, if negligence is done during festivals, then it can also have to bear the consequences.

Dr. Kishor says that many types of other infectious diseases are also spreading in this season. In such a situation, if the cases of COVIDincrease in the coming days, then it can be a threat. Therefore it is necessary that people understand the importance of hand hygiene, social distancing, and the use of masks and follow the rules of prevention from COVID.

Experts say that even though the cases of corona are fewer, but still people in many states are getting infected with different variants of Omicron. There are also cases of reinfection with Omicron's ba.5 variant, although the symptoms of this variant are mild, still, if there is a mutation in the virus in the future, then a new variant can come.
