Agnipath scheme: Agniveers will get Rs 1 crore in case of martyrdom, and Rs 44 lakh in case of disability during service!


Bharat Bandh has been called today in protest against the Agneepath scheme. Potential recruiters are opposing the scheme as they feel it is against their interests. In view of the increasing opposition, the government made many major changes in the Agneepath scheme. In this sequence, the chiefs of the three armed forces met Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday.


After the meeting, the three heads held a joint press conference. During the press conference, Additional Secretary, Military Affairs, Lt Gen Anil Puri said that if any Agniveer dies during his service, then his immediate family members will be given a compensation of Rs 1 crore.

No discrimination against firefighters

Lt Gen Anil Puri said firefighters would be given the same allowance and facilities in Siachen or other areas as regular soldiers. Firefighters will not be discriminated against in terms of service. He reiterated the fact that the Agneepath plan was implemented for the betterment of the Army and would not be withdrawn under any circumstances.

He said that every year around 17,600 people are taking retirement from all three services before the end of their tenure.

Plans to recruit more than 1 lakh firefighters


Lt Gen Anil Puri said that initially 46,000 firefighters will be recruited but there are plans to recruit 1.25 lakh firefighters in the near future. He said that 50 thousand to 60 thousand Agniveers would be required in the next 4-5 years, which would later increase to 90,000 to 1 lakh. He said the recruitment figure of firefighters in the army would not be limited to 46,000.

Facilities for firefighters 

Firefighters will be given hardship allowance, uniform allowance, canteen, and medical facilities like regular soldiers. Apart from this, a traveling allowance will also be given. A provision of 30 days leave in a year has also been made for the firefighters. Apart from these holidays, there will also be medical leave.

Insurance cover will also be available if any Agniveer dies during service. About one crore rupees will be given to his family. Apart from this, the salary of the remaining job will also be given. If a soldier becomes disabled during work, then he will be given an ex-gratia amount of 44 lakhs along with the salary and facility package of the remaining job.
