Notably, if the fitment factor is increased, there will also be a substantial increase in the basic pay or minimum pay of the Central Government employees under the Seventh Pay Commission.
According to some media reports that surfaced earlier, the central government may soon agree to increase the fitment factor as the unions have been demanding an increase in the minimum wage from Rs 18,000 to Rs 26,000. They are now demanding the government increase the fitment factor from 2.57 times to 3.68 times.
