Under the Gobar-Dhan scheme, the government provides a subsidy of Rs 37,000 for setting up biogas plants in rural areas. This is leading to the production of clean fuel, environmental protection and rural employment. The scheme is providing economic benefits and energy savings to livestock farmers.
The central government has launched the Gobar-Dhan scheme to promote financial assistance and clean fuel to the citizens of rural areas. Under this scheme, the government is giving a subsidy of Rs 37,000 for setting up a biogas plant, so that rural people can easily set up the plant. This scheme not only helps in keeping the environment clean, but it is also increasing employment opportunities in villages. Villagers are getting clean fuel for cooking from biogas plants and their cost spent on traditional fuel is also reducing.
A subsidy of 37 thousand rupees is being provided under the scheme
Under the Gobar Dhan Yojana, a subsidy of Rs 37 thousand is being provided to the villagers. This subsidy is being given to set up a biogas plant or organic fertilizer production unit. Under this, farmers or rural entrepreneurs can produce organic fertilizer and biogas from cow dung and organic waste, which can increase their income.
Benefits of Gobar Dhan Yojana
People in rural areas mostly have to use wood for cooking which causes a lot of smoke. Therefore, biogas plants are the best option for rural areas. These plants make gas from organic things like cow dung, plant waste, etc. This gas is used for cooking. This prevents smoke from spreading in homes and people get clean air. Also, the fertilizer made from this plant is used in the fields, which leads to good crops. Overall, biogas plants have become a means of clean fuel, clean environment and better farming for rural people.
Villagers in every state can avail the benefits
The benefits of Gobar Dhan Yojana are available in rural areas of all states. This scheme is specially designed for farmers and rural entrepreneurs so that they can convert their animal dung and agricultural waste into profitable products.
Got a good response in Gujarat
The Gobar-Dhan scheme has received a very good response in Gujarat. Currently, 7,276 biogas plants are functioning smoothly in the state, which is 97% of the target of setting up 7,600 biogas plants set by the state . This clearly shows how successful the scheme has been at the rural level. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has set a target of setting up 10,000 additional biogas plants in the state , which will create more employment opportunities in rural areas.
The scheme was started in 2018
The Gobar-Dhan Yojana was launched on 1 November 2018 by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India. The scheme aims to convert cattle dung and agricultural residues into biogas, compressed biogas (CBG) or bio-CNG. The biogas generated from this scheme is used for cooking as well as power generation. Along with this, this scheme has also been linked under the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign, promoting the importance of cleanliness in rural areas.
Easy scheme for livestock farmers
To avail the benefits of the Gobar-Dhan Yojana, livestock farmers should have at least two livestock. A 2-cubic meter capacity biogas plant costs around Rs 42,000 , out of which Rs 25,000 is provided as a subsidy by the central and state governments. At the same time, an amount of Rs 12,000 comes under MNREGA , which is spent on digging pits and other necessary works. Livestock farmers have to spend only Rs 5,000 , which makes it affordable for them to set up a biogas plant.
