Shahrukh Khan's much-awaited 2023 film Dunky releases in theaters on December 21. The film received mixed responses from the audience. The actor made his comeback this year with 'Pathan' and now, he has revealed the reason behind taking a 4-year long break from acting.
Talking about his break from acting, Shahrukh Khan said, "Actually, I did not take a break for 4 years. To be honest, within a year and a half, I felt that I had distanced myself from myself. An actor needs to stay very close to himself. But movies are sometimes so vast that you forget your experiences in daily life. So I just wanted to be with myself."
He said, "So I thought I should sit for 6-8 months and to be honest, I didn't even have any film. I don't sign films in a gap. I don't stress about which film I get. Must sign. I am a bit lazy internally. I think I took a break of 1 year and then the pandemic came, which extended the period to 4 years. There was no concerted effort or thought process behind it."
She further revealed how she spent her break and said, "I watched a lot of movies of every genre during that break. Normally we don't get time to watch movies because we are on the sets. I thought there were some movies like Which I liked but the audience did not. So I should do that kind of film and try to make it better. The main thing for every actor is how many people can we entertain. In terms of business, box office. Numbers give happiness but I think every creative person in the film industry wants to know how much I have been able to entertain. So I am very happy that I have been able to entertain so much this year. For me, ending my entertaining year with Dunky is the biggest achievement for me and I think it will entertain the audience a lot. It can entertain so much that I can take a break of 2-3 years again."
Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, Donkey is the story of 5 friends from Punjab who want to go to the UK, however, after the legal route fails, they resort to illegal routes to reach there. The film stars Shahrukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Anil Grover, Vikram Kochhar, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani and other actors in lead roles.
