Kunickaa Sadanand: "I Was Pregnant Before My Second Marriage, and They Refused to Accept Me"

Kunickaa Sadanand, a renowned actress with notable contributions in both television and Bollywood, has often made headlines for her personal life. Her first marriage was to Abhay Kothari when she was just 16 years old, and she gave birth to her first son at the age of 17. Interestingly, she even completed her 12th-grade education while living with her in-laws. However, her first marriage didn’t last long, and later, at the age of 35, Kunickaa married Vinay Lal in the U.S., where they had a son together.

Pregnancy Before Marriage

In a candid revelation during Siddharth Kannan's podcast, Kunickaa disclosed that she was pregnant before her second marriage to Vinay Lal. Reflecting on that phase of her life, she admitted that initially, she didn’t want to marry and aspired to be like actress Neena Gupta, who embraced single motherhood. However, family pressure and her determination to not lose her child made her reconsider.

Kunickaa shared, "I didn’t want to lose another child. I was scared that this relationship might also fall apart. I was pregnant at the time, and Neena Ji advised me to marry him, saying, ‘He’s a good man, go ahead and marry him.’”

A Wedding Without Family Support

The actress revealed that her wedding lacked familial support. None of her relatives, including her mother-in-law, attended the ceremony. Instead, Vinay’s friends from the U.S. were present, and they even performed her kanyadaan (the ritual of giving away the bride). Kunickaa was emotional during the wedding, saying, "I was getting ready while crying. My father even told me that if I didn’t marry, he wouldn’t accept my child."

Testing the Relationship

Before committing to marriage, Kunickaa proposed a trial period with Vinay. She told him, “Let’s live together for a month. If it works out, we’ll marry; if not, you’re free to say you don’t want to marry me.” Eventually, they got married, and within 4-5 months, she gave birth to her son, who is now 25 years old. However, the marriage eventually ended in divorce due to irreconcilable differences.

Blended Families

Kunickaa shared that there’s a 17-year age gap between her son from her first marriage and her second son. Despite this, both share a strong bond. She also mentioned that she considers the son of her ex-husband Abhay’s second wife as her own.

Past Relationships

Kunickaa’s personal life has seen its fair share of controversies. At one point, she was in a relationship with the son of legendary actor Pran. Additionally, her six-year-long affair with singer Kumar Sanu, who was married at the time, also made headlines.
