Anupam Kher announced his new project on Friday, July 7, in which he will be seen playing the role of poet, philosopher, musician, painter, and essayist, Rabindranath Tagore. Taking to his social media handle, Anupam shared his look as Tagore and captioned it, "Delighted to portray #Gurudev #RabindranathTagore in my 538th project. Will reveal details at the appropriate time. It is my privilege to have Got this opportunity to make Gurudev come true on screen. Will share more details about this film with you soon."

His first look as Rabindranath Tagore has impressed netizens immensely. One user wrote, "OMG sir, you really look like him", while another commented, "Such wonderful news for the entire Bengali family. You know how close to our hearts Robbie Thakur is. He is our emotion." An Instagram user also wrote, "Sir I must say this will be the toughest task in your career but it will be a blessing for us to feel Gurudev."

Rabindranath Tagore was the first Indian to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. He wrote the national anthems of India and Bangladesh Jana Gana Mana and Amar Shonar Bangla. Even the Sri Lankan national anthem Namo Namo Matha is inspired by his work and was written by Ananda Samarakoon while he was a disciple of Tagore at Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan. Tagore is known by many names including Gurudev, Kabiguru, and Biswakabi, and is commonly referred to as the 'Bard of Bengal'.

Before Rabindranath Tagore, Anupam Kher will be seen playing the role of political leader Jayaprakash Narayan in the political drama Emergency, which will hit the theaters on November 24. The film is directed and produced by Kangana Ranaut, who plays India's first female Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, under her banner Manikarnika Films. It stars Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Milind Soman as Sam Manekshaw, Sanjay Vishwak Nair as Gandhi, Mahima Chowdhary as Pupul Jayakar and Late Satish Kaushik as Jagjivan Ram.

The next release of the veteran actor, who celebrated his 68th birthday in March earlier this year, is Vivek Agnihotri's The Vaccine War. Based on India's fight against the COVID-19 virus, the film was earlier scheduled to release on India's Independence Day on August 15, but as per the latest reports, it has now been postponed to September 28 and is set to take a massive hit at the box office. But Prabhas and Prashant Neel's pan-India action film will clash with Salaar.
