This Bollywood veteran started his career as a supervisor in Kolkata, where he used to get a monthly salary of only Rs 800. After leaving his job in Calcutta in 1968, he moved to Mumbai. He came to Mumbai with the dream of becoming an actor.

He got a chance to act for the first time in 1969 in Khwaja Ahmed Abbas's film Saat Hindustani. After this, he got a chance to show his acting skills in the film Anand with Rajesh Khanna in the year 1971. He won the hearts of the audience with his brilliant acting in this film. After this he did not look back and proved his dominance in Bollywood.
