After a series of critical and commercial failures, actor Akshay Kumar is all set to return with the satirical comedy-drama OMG 2. Written and directed by Amit Rai, the film stars Pankaj Tripathi, Yami Gautam Dhar, Govind Namdev, and Arun Govil in pivotal roles. OMG 2 is all set to hit the screens on 11th August.
Prior to its release, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) issued the film an 'A' (Adults Only) certificate, without suggesting any cuts, yet recommended over 25 modifications.
OMG 2 tells the story of Kanti Sharan Mudgal, a staunch devotee of Lord Shiva living in the temple city of Ujjain. During a crucial moment, his god appears before him and helps him solve the challenges he faces. The makers of the film had earlier this month released a one-minute-26-second teaser of the film, which showed glimpses of OMG 2 and introduced the lead characters, with Akshay playing the role of Lord Shiva and actor Pankaj Tripathi in the role of a devotee. He also released a powerful track from the film a few days ago. Titled "Har Har Mahadev", the song will see Akshay Kumar in his Lord Shiva avatar performing a powerful 'Tandav'. The track features a large number of worshipers celebrating the Lord, dancing to the high-octane tunes.
However, amidst all the preparations, OMG 2 recently got embroiled in a controversy when a priest of Ujjain's Mahakaleshwar temple demanded the deletion of scenes shot at the temple, as reported by news agency ANI. Mahesh Sharma, the priest of the Mahakaleshwar temple said, the censor board has given 'A' certificate to the film Oh My God 2. This certificate is reserved for films that have adult content. We demand that some scenes, which were shot in the Mahakal temple, be removed as they may hurt the religious sentiments of the viewers. If our demands are not met, we will start protests across the country.
Looking at the current stage of his career, it appears that Akshay Kumar has taken a prudent decision with OMG 2 as it is a remake of his 2012 blockbuster, OMG - Oh My God! Serving as the sequel to! His last film, Raj Mehta's Selfie, proved to be a colossal failure and earned only Rs 24.6 crore worldwide despite being made with a budget of over Rs 100 crore.
