Priyanka Chopra was initially going to play the lead role in the film instead of Deepika Padukone. But things suddenly changed and Deepika was chosen for the lead role. The decision was changed in a meeting

In an interview given to Lehran Retro, Madhu Chopra told that Priyanka was initially selected for the lead role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film in 2013. However, things changed after meeting the director. Madhu Chopra said, "I don't remember much about that time. I only know that I was with my patients in my clinic and she went to the director's office. When she came back, she said that I am only doing a song in Ram-Leela. I asked her - what happened? She said - I think it is better."
