Amid the tariff war of US President Donald Trump, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi's US visit, his meeting with Elon Musk during this visit, and now Tesla's start of hiring in India tell a lot of stories. Tesla has started hiring in India. In the initial phase of this hiring, Tesla has advertised 13 jobs. It is clear from this that the meeting between PM Modi and Tesla CEO Elon Musk was very positive. It is also expected that Tesla may do more hiring in the coming days.

Let us tell you that for the past several years, India was preparing to bring Tesla. Tesla was also eager to enter India, but amidst all this, India's taxes and duties were coming in the way. Now that Trump has become the President of America and his attitude towards tariff is visible, India has taken its step back a bit. Import duty has been reduced in the budget. It is clear from this that India wants to stay away from America's tariff war and wants to expand business as much as possible. Let us also tell you what kind of report has come out from Tesla regarding hiring.

Tesla starts hiring

US electric car manufacturer Tesla has started hiring for various positions in India. These include business operations analyst and customer support specialist, which could be a precursor to the company's entry into the country. According to the job notification on the company's website, these positions are for the Mumbai suburban area. A look at Linkedin revealed that Tesla is hiring only 13 people for Mumbai.

Jobs released for these posts

These roles include service consultant, parts consultant, service technician, service manager, sales and customer support, store manager, sales and customer support, business operations analyst, customer support supervisor, customer support specialist, distribution operations specialist, order operations specialist, internal sales consultant and customer engagement manager. The company was emailed and asked whether these recruitments are part of the company's plan to enter the Indian market and what is the possible timeline for starting sales in India. However, the answer to this question was not received at the moment.

Was waiting for a long time

Tesla's hiring in India comes after the company's founder and US billionaire Elon Musk's recent meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Tesla's potential entry into the Indian market is being eagerly awaited. Last April, Elon Musk had postponed his proposed visit to India at the last minute citing very heavy Tesla obligations. However, the proposed visit had raised expectations that Musk would soon announce further plans for selling Tesla electric cars in India.

EV policy announced

His visit to India comes just weeks after the government announced a new electric vehicle (EV) policy under which companies setting up manufacturing units in the country with a minimum investment of $500 million will be given concessions in import duty. The move is aimed at attracting major global companies like Tesla.

Will the situation change now?

The hiring being done by Tesla is pointing towards a lot of changes. The hiring in India by Musk, the world's richest businessman and Trump's closest advisor, clearly shows that the tussle between the Trump administration and India over tariffs is now calming down. Trump has already called India the tariff king. In such a situation, hiring in India for Tesla is also pointing towards the fact that negotiations have been done between the two parties regarding tax. India has made a lot of changes in its EV policy and reduced taxes, which Elon Musk had been demanding.

Attitude towards India will change

On the other hand, after Tesla's entry into India, apart from the Trump administration, the attitude of Europe and other countries of the world towards India may also change. There is a reason for that. Trump and Musk's biggest concern about India was the import duty. Now that Tesla is hiring, it should be understood that Trump and Tesla's tariff concern has gone away. The clear message of which will be seen in the rest of the world and EV related companies. Which can benefit India. Just like it was seen during Apple's entry into India during Covid. India was presented to the world as a big alternative to China.

Will China's condition worsen?

On the other hand, the condition of China is also expected to worsen. After first Apple and now Tesla going to India, it is clear that soon India will become as important for Tesla as it is for Apple. Currently, the volume of Apple phones and other gadgets imported from India is continuously increasing. Even Apple's partner companies are continuously investing in India. In such a situation, something can be said about Tesla in the coming days. Many states of India have already given many offers to Tesla and its CEO Elon Musk. Which includes states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana etc. In such a situation, it can prove to be a big setback for China in the coming years.

Why is China tensed about Modi-Trump meeting?

How much can be invested?

About one and a half years ago, when there was talk of Elon Musk coming to India, it was being estimated that he could invest 3 to 5 billion dollars i.e. 25 to 40 thousand crores rupees. Now the circumstances have changed a lot. In such a situation, now the estimate is being made much more than this. According to the estimate of Indian officials, Tesla can now invest 65 to 80 thousand crores rupees in India i.e. double. If this happens, it will be a big investment for India. Which is much more than any other foreign investment.
