Now you can book metro tickets along with railway tickets from IRCTC


IRCTC-Metro Ticket Booking: Now you don't need to stand in long queues for metro tickets. You can book metro train tickets from your mobile phone while sitting at home. Now, not only train tickets but also metro tickets can be booked from IRCTC's app and website. This means that apart from trains, IRCTC will now allow booking of metro tickets as well.  


An agreement has been signed between the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS). This agreement has been made to promote 'One India, One Ticket'. Under this deal, the travel of people of Delhi-NCR will become easier.  

Booking of metro tickets will also be done. 

Just like you make reservations for tickets on trains, similarly you will now be able to make bookings of tickets in metros as well. For train reservations from the IRCTC website you get the facility of 4 months i.e. 120 days advance ticket booking, similarly, now you will get the facility of 120 days booking for travelling by metro as well. 

How will the booking be done?  

Metro tickets can be booked through IRCTC's website and app. Passengers will get the facility of booking of metro tickets 120 days in advance in the metro just like railways. Tickets once booked will be valid for 4 days. Currently, metro tickets are valid for only one day. Changes will be made in the booking system of Delhi Metro Rail for booking tickets for metro rail from IRCTC. According to DMRC, metro tickets with QR codes will be booked, their QR codes will be printed on the train tickets. People can take a printout of it and keep it with them or they can use it by taking a screenshot in the phone.   

Beta version launched

A beta version of IRCTC's mobile app has been launched for booking metro tickets. Currently, it will only run on phones with the Android operating system. After a trial period of 4 months, it will be launched in full version with necessary changes. Booking of metro tickets will gradually reduce the long queues outside the ticket window at metro stations.
