Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has directed the Finance Department to make payment of revised pension to more than 3 lakh pensioners with effect from July 1, 2021. This will put an additional burden of Rs 1,887 crore on the state government in the current financial year. According to an official statement, this decision has been taken in line with the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission of Punjab.

Channi also directed for encashment of holidays and payment of other benefits like a gratuity. It will sit around Rs 915 crore. It will be paid to 42,600 pensioners who retired from January 1, 2016, to June 30, 2021. In all, these decisions will put a burden of Rs 2,802 crore on the exchequer. The Chief Minister said that such revised pension would be paid in a lump sum to the pensioners from July 1, 2021.
