Stock Market: The stock market broke sluggishness, Sensex jumped more than 200 points, Nifty crossed 17000
The Indian index started on the green mark on Wednesday on the third trading day of the week amid mixed global cues. The 30-share Sensex index of the Bombay Stock Exchange opened 214 points or 0.38 per cent higher at 56,677, while the Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange gained 57 points or 0.34 per cent to start trading at 17,016 level.
As the market opened, about 1458 shares rose, 512 shares declined and 83 shares remained unchanged. Coal India, Eicher Motors, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki and Reliance Industries were among the top gainers on the Nifty, while Kotak Mahindra Bank, Apollo Hospitals, Cipla, HUL and HDFC Life were among the losers on the list.
Earlier on Tuesday, the stock market started with gains on the last trading day, but after the day's volatile trading, it closed with a sharp decline in the end. The BSE Sensex closed at 56,463, down 703 points or 1.23 per cent. On the other hand, the NSE Nifty index slipped 215 points or 1.25 per cent to close at 16,958.
