Stock Market Closed: Strong fall in stock market, Sensex slips more than 700 points, Nifty below 17200


On Friday, the last trading day of the week, the stock market opened on the red mark and finally closed with a fall after a day's trading. The 30-share Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange slipped 714 points or 1.23 per cent to close at 57,197, while the Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange lost 221 points and closed at 17,172.


Earlier, both the indexes of the stock market were open on the red mark, putting brakes on the previous day's gains. The BSE Sensex had started trading at 57,366, down 546 points or 0.94 per cent, while the NSE Nifty lost 166 points or 0.95 per cent to open at 17,227 level.


It is worth noting that earlier on Thursday, the stock market started on the green mark on the last trading day and after a day's trading, it finally closed with strong momentum. The Sensex index closed at 57,912 with a gain of 874 points or 1.53 per cent. On the other hand, the Nifty index rose 265 points or 1.49 per cent to close at 17,393.
