Stock Market Closed: Despite a sharp start, the market closed with a slight increase, 33 in Sensex and Nifty jumped five points
On Thursday, the Bharathi stock market opened on the green mark and closed with a slight increase after a day's trading. The 30-share Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange jumped 33 points to close at 55,702. While the Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange gained five points and ended trading at 16,683 levels.
Earlier, amid strong global cues, the BSE Sensex started trading at 56,186 with a gain of 517 points or 0.93 per cent, while the NSE Nifty opened at 16,835 with a gain of 157 points or 0.94 per cent. Both the indices could not handle this initial rally till the end during volatile trading.
In the last trading session on Wednesday, after the announcement of increasing the repo rates by 20 basis points by RBI in the session, suddenly there was an earthquake in the stock market. The Sensex closed at 55,669, down 1306 points or 2.29 per cent. Due to this big fall in the Sensex, investors lost Rs 6.27 lakh crore in one stroke. On the other hand, Nifty slipped 391 points or 2.29 per cent to close at 16,678.
