Why do Naga Sadhus not bathe for months and years, they stay miles away from water… this is the reason

Naga Sadhu Facts: Many Naga Sadhus who take bath first in Maha Kumbh do not bathe for months or years while meditating and doing penance. They just apply ash or incense on their body. Why do Naga Sadhus avoid water so much, let's know in detail...
Naga Sadhus have a lot of importance in Maha Kumbh. Maha Kumbh cannot start without them. According to tradition, Naga Sadhus are the first ones to take Amrit Snan. Only after that, the rest of the devotees take bath. But do you know, many Naga Sadhus do not take bath for months or years. There is a special reason behind this. Naga Sadhus believe that purification is done only by applying ash (bhasm) and meditation-yoga. That is why they keep only ash or dhuni on their body. Naga Sadhus focus more on internal purity than external purity of the body in their sadhana.
At the same time, some sadhus bathe at regular intervals, especially if their tradition of sadhana allows it. There is no exact rule or time set for bathing of Naga sadhus, as it depends on their sadhana, traditions and personal penance.
is also said about Naga Sadhus that they remain completely naked and do rigorous penance in caves and caverns. One of the many special rituals of Naga Sadhus is that their sexual organs are destroyed. For this process, they have to stand in Naga form for 24 hours under the flag of the Akhara without eating or drinking anything. During this time, they have a stick on their shoulder and an earthen pot in their hands.
During this time, the guards of the Akhara keep an eye on them. After this, the sadhu of the Akhara deactivates their penis by shaking it with Vedic mantras. This work is also done under the flag of the Akhara. After this process, he becomes a Naga Sadhu.
If a person successfully passes the test of following celibacy, he is made a great man from a brahmachari. Five gurus are made for him. These five gurus are Panch Dev or Panch Parmeshwar (Shiva, Vishnu, Shakti, Surya and Ganesh). They are given things like ash, saffron, Rudraksha etc. These are the symbols and ornaments of Nagas.
This is how a Naga Avdhoot is made
After Mahapurush, Nagas are made Avdhoot. In this, first of all he has to get his hair cut. For this, a receipt of Akhara Parishad is also issued. The one who takes initiation as Avdhoot has to perform his own tarpan and pinddaan. This pinddaan is done by the priest of Akhara. They die for the world and family. Their only purpose is to protect Sanatan and Vedic religion.
Naga sadhus do not cut their hair
Naga Sadhus usually do not cut their hair. This is seen as an important symbol of their renunciation and sadhana. Not cutting hair symbolizes that they have renounced worldly bonds, desires and material comforts. This is a part of their sadhana and penance.
According to Hindu beliefs, growing hair and making dreadlocks helps in preserving spiritual energy. It is considered beneficial in meditation and yoga. Letting hair and beard grow symbolizes their connection with nature and simplicity of life. Naga Sadhus keep their hair in Jata (messy and tangled hair). This is a sign of their devotion and sadhana towards Shiva, as Lord Shiva is called “Jatadhari” (the one who wears dreadlocks).
