At this time, discussions about the famous ruler Aurangzeb are common in the country and politics is also at its peak. It is said that during his reign, Aurangzeb demolished thousands of temples and built mosques there.
In Indian history, Aurangzeb has been depicted as a cruel ruler. History also mentions that he demolished many temples and built mosques.
There was also a temple which Aurangzeb went to demolish but he had to return back. Not only this, his army also fainted. This temple is none other than the place of penance of Lord Ram, Chitrakoot.
Many incidents in the history of India portray Aurangzeb as a cruel ruler. He ruled India from 1658 to 1707. During this period, incidents of atrocities were also heard, which also included the destruction of temples.
In the same sequence, when he reached Chitrakoot, his army tried to break the Shivlings of Maharajdhiraj Matyagajendranath temple situated at Ramghat on the banks of Mandakini river with a hammer. It is said that these Shivlings were established by Brahmaji.
When the hammer was used on these Shivlings, the entire army including Aurangzeb's commander fell unconscious. When the ruler got the news of this, he got scared and reached Balaji temple.
Regarding this incident, Matyagajendranath temple priest Vipin Tiwari tells that Aurangzeb had prayed to Balaji temple saint Balak Das to set the army right. On this, Balak Das had told Aurangzeb that you will have to give in writing that you will not demolish temples in Chitrakoot.
After this, Aurangzeb accepted the words of Sant Balak Das and wrote on a paper that he will not destroy the temples of Chitrakoot again. He told the ruler the solution and said that he should go 10 km away from here. The saint gave him an ash, after which his army became fine.
Aurangzeb donated thousands of acres of land and also got the temple built. Evidence of this incident can still be found in Matyagajendranath Temple and Balaji Temple.
Mahant Bhuvan Das Maharaj of Balaji temple says that this incident is of the year 1691 and the copper plate of Aurangzeb is also present.
