Guwahati: A woman gave birth to a child in the toilet of a government hospital in Meghalaya. The child died shortly after birth. The woman's family has come forward alleging that the newborn died due to the negligence of the hospital administration. The woman gave birth to the child in the toilet of the civil hospital in Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya. The incident happened late Saturday evening.

A woman named Monalisa Langi, resident of Umden Diwan, was brought to the hospital after experiencing labour pains in the early hours of Saturday. The woman was first taken to Umden Primary Health Centre, from where she was referred to the district hospital. The woman was taken to the Civil Hospital at 4 am on Saturday and was provided first aid by the hospital administration.

By evening, the woman started having labour pains again. After this, the hospital gave her pain relief medicine, said her husband Richard Rimpite. But the woman did not get relief from the pain. When the woman went to the toilet at around 6 in the evening, she felt labour pain and gave birth to the child inside the toilet itself. The child died after delivery. The woman's family has accused the hospital administration of negligence leading to the death of the child. They said that no action has been taken in the case so far.
