What happens before death?
According to the Garuda Purana, death occurs at its appointed time, and the soul begins to separate from the body. When death approaches a living being, by divine coincidence, some disease develops in his body some time before that. In this state, all the senses become restless, and the body loses energy, strength and movement. The pain experienced is compared to being stung by millions of scorpions. Gradually, consciousness fades, and the body becomes lifeless.
When the time comes for death
, the angels of death appear and forcibly take the soul out of the body. The soul reaches the throat, causing the person's appearance to become deformed. The mouth fills with saliva, and foam may appear. Finally, the soul goes to Yamaloka with the angels.
