The highest railway station in India is named Ghum, which is a station on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. This railway station is situated at an altitude of 2,258 meters i.e. 7,407 feet above sea level.

Till the year 1878, it took about 5 to 6 days to reach Darjeeling from Kolkata. The construction of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway started in the year 1879, after which this railway line reached Ghamour in 1879. With its help, people started getting ease of transportation.
