Smoke is rising from pyres on all sides and on the other side Holi is being played with the ashes of the pyre.
Varanasi Masan Holi 2025: Shiva devotees have gathered at Harishchandra Ghat in Varanasi. Mahadev's devotees are mesmerized and performing Tandava on the beats of DJ-dhol and damru. Smoke is rising from pyres everywhere and on the other side Holi is being played with the ashes of the pyre. The crowd is so much that there is no place to even put a foot. Shiva devotees are going to Harishchandra Ghat 2 km away while performing Tandava. Holi will be played with 2500 kg of pyre ashes amidst the burning pyres at the crematorium.
5 lakh tourists reached Kashi
Let us tell you that about 5 lakh tourists from 20 countries have reached Kashi to see this Holi of Banaras. This time women will not be a part of it. Holi of pyre ashes will be played tomorrow at Manikarnika Ghat. Ashes of 5100 pyres have been collected. This time a large number of Naga sanyasis will also participate. Due to increasing crowd and ruckus, women will see Holi of Mahasmshan from boat.
Why do we play Holi with ashes of funeral pyre?
It is said that on Rangbhari Ekadashi, Lord Shiva got Mata Parvati married. When Mata came to Kashi, she played Holi with colours and gulal with her followers but Holi was not played with the ghosts, spirits and eunuchs who reside in the crematorium. Because of this, a day after Rangbhari Ekadashi, Mahadev played Holi with many ghosts living in the crematorium.
