Volkswagen Tiguan production begins in India, will be launched next month

German automaker Volkswagen is all set to introduce its updated Tiguan SUV in India. Recently the company has started its production in the country. It is to be launched in India next month.

The wait for the new Tiguan coming from Germany's leading automaker Volkswagen is coming to an end. Because the company has started production of Tiguan at its production plant located in Aurangabad, India. The company in a press statement on Thursday underlined that Tiguan will fulfill its commitment of four new SUVs in India by 2021. The new Tiguan is scheduled for an official launch on December 7.

Under the MQB platform that underpins several models on offer under the Volkswagen Group of brands, the new Tiguan will be powered by TSI technology and will get a 2.0-liter TSI engine mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission unit with 4MOTION technology.

For information, let us tell you that the updated Tiguan was introduced globally in 2020, its entry in India is being seen as a major step by Volkswagen to dominate the market more, especially with the launch of the compact SUV Taigun. Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, “Globally, Tiguan has proven its worth as a strong and capable carline, which is rapidly rising the ranks as a global best-seller. "Tiguan is an ideal SUVW, equipped with just the right amount of power, performance, and elegance. We expect the launch of the new 5-seater Tiguan in early December 2021."

In terms of styling, the new Tiguan SUV gets an updated front grille with chrome embellishments, LED matrix headlamps, and LED daytime running lights along with an updated bumper housing triangle fog lamps. On the side, the alloy design on the side has been changed while the character lines have been further highlighted. The rear has been completed with LED taillights which are slimmer now.

After its launch, the Tiguan will take on the Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Compass, and the Citroen C5 Aircross.
