Vehicle Scrapping Policy: You will get double tax exemption on junk vehicles, just have to do this work

With an aim to get rid of highly polluting vehicles, the Transport Ministry has proposed to double the one-time tax rebate on the purchase of new vehicles after removing vehicles with BS-2 and earlier emission standards to 50 percent.
At present, a 25 percent discount on motor vehicle tax is given on purchasing a new vehicle after scrapping old private vehicles, while in the case of commercial vehicles, this discount is limited to 15 percent.
What is Vehicle Scrap Policy?
The government offers the general public the facility to scrap old and unfit vehicles, both private and commercial vehicle owners can take advantage of this government policy. Under the scrap policy, you can give old cars, bikes, scooters etc. for scrap.
To explain it to you through an example, if your car has completed 10 years (diesel) or 15 years (petrol), then you can save a huge amount of money while buying a new car under this policy by giving the old car for scrap.
Now 50% tax exemption will be available
In a draft notification issued on January 24, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said the discount of up to 50 per cent will apply to all vehicles (both commercial and personal) that conform to BS-1 standards or are manufactured before the implementation of BS-1 standards.
According to the draft notification, this exemption will be applicable to BS-2 vehicles falling under medium and heavy private and transport vehicles. BS-1 carbon emission standards for vehicles became mandatory in the year 2000, while BS-2 came into force from the year 2002.
75 ATS centers operating in the country
The Ministry of Transport has launched the Voluntary Vehicle Modernisation Programme or Vehicle Scrappage Policy to create an ecosystem for phasing out unfit polluting vehicles across the country through a network of Registered Vehicle Scrappage Facilities (RVSFs) and Automated Testing Stations (ATS).
At present, there are more than 60 RVSFs operational in 17 States/UTs and more than 75 ATSs in 12 States/UTs in the country, with many more in the pipeline.
