The UV (Utility Vehicle) segment is growing at a very fast pace in the country. From the Tata Punch Micro SUV, the Jeep Meridian 7-seater SUV to the updated Maruti Suzuki XL6 and the upcoming SUVs from Mahindra, several new SUVs/MPVs are set to hit the Indian roads in the next few years. Today, through this article, we are telling you in detail information about the timeline of the upcoming SUV and MPV to be launched in India.

Hyundai Compact MPV

Hyundai is gearing up to enter the compact MPV segment with a new model early next year. It is one of the much-awaited upcoming MPVs that will rival the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. There are reports that the Hyundai Stargazer, which was spotted testing in Indonesia and Korea, will be ready for launch in India. The 7-seater MPV will be specially designed and developed for the Southeast Asian market. Hyundai's Chennai-based plant will handle production for the domestic and international markets. The length of the Stargazer is expected to be around 4.5 meters and the wheelbase is likely to be the same as that of the Alcazar. On the engine front, the upcoming Hyundai compact MPV could get 1.5L petrol (113bhp/145Nm) and 1.5L diesel (113bhp/250Nm) units. Alcazar's 2.0L petrol engine could also be on offer.

Kia KY

Hyundai's sibling and another South Korean automaker Kia have already confirmed that its fourth product for India will arrive in early 2022. While the company is yet to reveal the name and details of the new model, it is likely to be a compact MPV based on the Seltos platform. Its test mule has been caught on camera several times. It is codenamed KY. This compact MPV from Kia will be offered in competition with the upcoming compact MPV from Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Mahindra Marazzo, and Hyundai. It will be a 7-seater model that will share its features and engine with the Kia Seltos. Reports suggest that the Kia KY will be the first car in its segment to offer access to the third-row seats via electronic buttons.

Maruti Suzuki XL6

If reports are to be believed, the Indo-Japanese carmaker is planning to launch the updated Maruti Suzuki XL6 in January 2022. There are likely to be minor changes on the inside and outside of the model. This time around, the company may bring a 7-seater version of the XL6 which is sold as the Suzuki XL7 in the Indonesian market. The model has a bench seat for middle-row passengers. It is likely to come with newly designed alloy wheels, slightly wider tires, a contrast black roof, and a rear spoiler. Under the hood, the 2022 Maruti XL6 could get the same 105PS, 1.5L K15B petrol engine along with manual and automatic gearbox options.
