There will be no pollution… there will be no jam, this traffic control plan will kill two birds with one stone
These days, the Air Quality Index level (Delhi AQI Level) in Delhi-NCR remains above 450 points. While Delhi-NCR is infamous for pollution, Bengaluru city is infamous for traffic problems in the entire country and the world. The common link between both these problems is the increasing traffic in the city and its improper management. Therefore, now a plan has been prepared which will control traffic in a better way. This will be like killing two problems with one arrow.
In fact, the 'Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade' (DPIIT), working under the Commerce Ministry of the Central Government, has finalized a 'Model City Logistic Plan' for both Delhi and Bengaluru. This plan will improve traffic control in the cities, which is expected to reduce vehicular pollution.
How will the Model City Logistics Plan work?
A senior official of DPIIT said that this plan will improve logistics in both the cities. It will improve the management of trucks coming from outside to small trucks (chota haathi) used for home delivery etc. Its second advantage is that the logistics cost will be reduced for the people.
The plan was developed with the help of Germany
India has received help from Germany in preparing the model city logistics plan. This plan has been prepared by the Green Freight Project of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) under India-Germany technical cooperation. All the best practices adopted at the international level have been adopted in this plan. Deutsche has helped the state government officials in this work.
Officials say that this plan will improve the overall quality of life in cities. It will play an important role in reducing congestion and pollution as well as reducing logistics costs. Rajiv Singh Thakur, Additional Secretary in DPIIT, says that both the Delhi and Karnataka governments have provided assistance to develop these plans.
