Tata Motors Monday officially unveiled the Panch sub-compact SUV. The company is gearing up to launch the vehicle on October 20. With the punch, Tata Motors is betting big on the growing preference of Indian consumers for SUVs. Punch is aimed at catering to the needs of the customers who are looking for a feature-packed car of a smaller size.
Tata Motors has already started bookings for the subcompact SUV at a token amount of Rs 21,000 and potential buyers can book through the digital platform or visit the Tata Motors dealership. Once launched, one can experience the Tata Punch. This micro SUV will compete with the Mahindra KUV100, Maruti Suzuki Ignis, and the upcoming Citroen C3 in its segment. The Tata Punch will be offered in four variants: The Punch will be offered in four broad variants, which Tata calls its 'Persona', which include Pure, Adventure Persona, Accomplished and Creative. The Tata Punch Pure will also get dual airbags, 15-inch wheels, a dual-drive model, and an engine-start stop among other features. The Haier Adventure Persona trim will come with steering-mounted controls, front, and rear power windows, and central remote locking. The all-trim will come with a 7-inch infotainment screen, rear-view cam, voice recognition, passive entry, push-button start, among others. The fourth Creative trim will also get additional features like auto temperature control, cooled glovebox, leather wrap steering, and gear knob, and IRA-connected technology.
Tata Punch Color Options: The new sub-compact SUV from Tata Motors will be offered in 7 color options - Orcus White, Atomic Orange, Daytona Grey, Meteor Bronze, Calypso Red, Tropical Mist, and Tornado Blue. There will also be dual-tone exterior color options that will be exclusive to the top-end Creative trim. In addition, the customer SUV will be offered with Rhythm and Dazzle customization packs.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance: The Tata Punch will be powered by a 1.2-liter Revotron engine with Dynapro technology producing 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque. The engine will come with a 5-speed manual or AMT transmission option. There is currently no information about the diesel engine. The company claims that it accelerates from zero to 60 kmph in 6.5 seconds and takes about 16 seconds to reach 100 kmph. Tata is also drawing attention to the Traction- Pro mode available with an AMT gearbox for better drive dynamics.
Built on ALFA-ARC Platform: Tata Motors' micro SUV will be based on the auto maker's new ALFA-ARC (Agile Light Flexible Advanced Architecture) architecture, shared by the company's premium hatchback Altroz.
Tata Punch Safety: Being based on the ALFA-ARC architecture, the Tata Punch gets 187 mm of ground clearance (165 mm when fully loaded). It comes with safety features like Traction Control Mode, 370mm water-wading capability, and Auto Brake Control which is being offered for the first time in a Tata car. Talking about other features, it includes dual airbags, cornering safety control, and a parametric alarm system.
Projector headlamps similar to Tata Safari and Harrier: The Tata Punch gets projector headlamps that are similar to those of the Tata Safari and Harrier. Its front face looks very similar to the Harrier and Safari. However, the front grille has a different styling theme with the 'Humanity Line'.
Doors open at a 90-degree angle: The doors of the Tata Punch Micro SUV open at an angle of approximately 90 degrees, which means passengers will be able to enter and exit the cabin of the vehicle with greater ease.
Cabin Highlights: The Tata Punch might have compact proportions, but its cabin manages to offer the utmost comfort and convenience. The SUV's cabin includes fully automatic cruise control, adjustable driver seat, auto fold ORVMs, steering mounted controls, tilt steering, fast USB charger, a shot-down driver window, 7-inch Harman infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
