TATA PUNCH

The country's leading automaker Tata Motors is preparing to launch its punch SUV in India before this festive season. If reports are to be believed, the company can also introduce its electric version.

The Tata Nexon EV has been the best-selling electric car in the country since its launch in January 2020. Now, the domestic automaker aims to further strengthen its EV market with a slew of new models including the Altroz EV. The news of the electric premium hatchback coming next year is coming. Speaking on the sidelines of Tata Punch's Unveil, a company official said that if there is demand, the company may consider Tata Punch EV.

Tata's upcoming small SUV underpins the Alpha (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture, which is compatible with various body styles and pure electric and hybrid powertrains. Hence, it will be easier for the carmaker to bring in an electric version. The same platform underlies the Tata Altroz premium hatchback. While there is no official information on its specifications, the Tata Punch EV is likely to come with the brand's Ziptron powertrain technology. If reports are to be believed, it can provide a range of more than 300kms.

Reports suggest that the company is planning to launch a more powerful variant of the Tata Nexon EV that churns out around 134 bhp. The same powertrain can be used in the upcoming Punch EV. Currently, the Nexon EV comes with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor and a 26kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The electric motor is capable of producing a claimed power of 75bhp and 170Nm of torque. It is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 kmph in 5.7 seconds.

Minor cosmetic changes are likely to be made on the Tata Punch EV. Similar to the Nexon EV, the micro electric SUV could be offered in a dual-tone signature teal blue and white roof color scheme. Upfront, it could get a new buy-arrow pattern and a grille with blue accents.
