Skoda's new sleek sedan Slavia coming to compete with Honda City, the company showed the first glimpse
The Czech automaker is preparing to bring an all-new sedan to India. Recently, the company dropped a teaser on its social media handle and confirmed that the new sedan will be named Skoda Slavia.
Skoda has officially announced that its all-new mid-size sedan will be called the Skoda Slavia. The sedan is expected to be unveiled in the next 1-2 months. This will be the second model from the brand to be based on the MQB AO IN platform, which the company has used in its Kushak. The Slavia will also be the third model to be offered under VW Group's India 2.0 project.
If reports are to be believed, Skoda Slavia will be launched in the segment above the Rapid sedan, let us tell you that the company has planned to discontinue the Rapid in the next few months. This upcoming sedan of the company will share not only the platform but also the specifications and features with the new Slavia, Kushak SUV. It is likely to measure around 4.5 meters and will come with a segment-largest wheelbase of 2,651 mm. The larger body and longer wheelbase of the sedan will help Skoda create more space inside the cabin.
The new Skoda Slavia has been spied testing several times, which suggests that the sedan will sport a notchback-like styling. The sedan will get the signature butterfly grille with chrome surround, sharp headlamps with LED DRLs, distinct character lines, sloping roofline, LED tail-lights, and diamond-cut alloys.
Talking about the interiors of the Slavia, it is likely to remain very similar to the Skoda Kushak. It will get a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cushion-like analog dials for the instrument console, connected car tech, 6 airbags, an electric sunroof, climate control, a leather upholstery, ventilated seats, A premium sound system will bring with it much more.
Skoda said the Slavic name was reminiscent of the early days of Skoda Auto. It was in 1896 that the founding fathers Václav Laurin and Václav Clément first began to design their bikes, and sold them under the Slavia brand name. The company said that the new premium mid-size sedan will pay tribute to the company's debut while establishing a link to the Slavic heritage.
Engine and Power: The Skoda Slavia mid-size sedan will be powered by a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that powers the Kushak. This engine is capable of producing 115bhp power and 200Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Higher-end variants may also get a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine that produces 147bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG. Its price is expected to be between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 15 lakh. The new Slavia will compete with Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
